Soccer Coaching: You Can Do It
Soccer is one of those games that are fantastic to sign your kid up for. One thing that usually happens whenever you sign your child up for soccer though is that there are not enough coaches. This is where all of the pleading and begging will come in for you to begin soccer coaching for your child’s team. While it might sound like a piece of cake, if you do not know anything about soccer or how to coach it, you might be in a bit of trouble.
Once you have taken on the position of the coach, you might want to do some research about the rules, especially if you have never played soccer. Although you will get some information as soon as you accept, you might still want to look for your own research because soccer is not the easiest game to understand.
It is not as difficult to understand the game of soccer as it might seem. However, one of the key things you are going to need to do is put the right kids in the right positions. You need to know what moves are allowed and which ones are not, like using your hands unless you are the goalie. The average age of the kids on the team will have a lot of impact on your coaching style.
Now onto the formations and positions; the very basic positions in soccer include the keeper, defender, midfielder and forward. After you have picked your positions, you now need to pick your formation.
The 4-4-2 is by far the most popular formation. This type of formation is going to be using 4-midfielders, 4-defenders and 2-forwards. Although there is another position available, this position is generally reserved for the keeper of the game.
One of the main reasons why this formation is so popular is because it gives an overall good balance of your team when they are in the game. You will definitely want to teach your team what all of these positions are and you want to give your team an opportunity to play each and every position. You will however, have to decide who is best for what position, that way you can make sure that you are gaining a very competitive and winning team.
Once you have mastered all you need to know concerning the positions and possible formations, you have to hone in on skills. Your tactics are important for a winning team and season. Thus, putting your team through drills will be excellent for their skills. That way they can be sure of a winning season.
One of the first skills and most important skills that you need to be teaching your players is going to be the passing, shooting, dribbling and playing defense. Most of the other skills can be learned on the field as they are learning soccer the game, but you, as the coach need to come up with drills for each of those four areas.
